Clayton Shiu, MTOM
MTOM - Licensed Acupuncturist and Board Certified Chinese Herbalist, Tai Chi Master Clayton was initially introduced to the principles and philosophy of Chinese medicine at the age of twelve when he began studying as an indoor student in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu with Master Tsong Yuan Ho from Taiwan. After he completed his undergraduate studies at Boston University, Clayton decided to focus his mind completely on Chinese medicine by entering the graduate program at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. While mentoring with several professors who specialized in pain management, he started an intense study into Tai Chi as an indoor student and eventually became a lineage disciple of renowned Master Zhang Yun, from Beijing. His training in Kung Fu and Tai Chi has enhanced his acupuncture and needle sensitivity, and has contributed to developing his own personal style of Qi Gong, or energy therapy. After the tragedies of September 11, 2001, Clayton and a team of three other acupuncturists volunteered their expertise and treated over 60 firefighters. Recently, Clayton launched the first pilot acupuncture and Tai Chi drug addiction program for the Addiction Research Treatment Center (ARTC) in Brooklyn, New York. He also travels annually to Beijing, China for additional studies in Chinese medicine and Tai Chi. As a Tai Chi teacher, he has also traveled around the U.S. and to Greece with has Tai Chi Master Zhang Yun to preserve and spread their traditional Tai Chi skills and knowledge. In addition to effectively treating orthopedic pain disorders, Clayton also specializes in psycho-emotional stress management, digestive disorders, respiratory and immune disorders, and addiction disorders such as smoking. Patients who experience Clayton’s sessions which combine acupuncture, Qi Gong, Tuina massage, and his herbal medical expertise praise his exceptional healing ability which he customizes towards each patient’s needs. He feels that Chinese medicine has a specific effective method of finding patterns in random symptoms. Clayton Shiu is a New York state and nationally certified licensed acupuncturist and nationally board certified Chinese herbologist. He holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Human Physiology from Boston University and a Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Clayton has been practicing acupuncture in New York since 1998. Currently, Clayton practices in Manhattan at Winnick and Associates on the Upper East Side and is available for home visits.
