Sharon Richter
MS, RD, CDN
During her undergraduate and pre-med studies, Sharon became fascinated by the impact of diet and exercise on one's health and decided to pursue a career in nutrition. The NYU Nutrition Program afforded her a variety of internships and consultative roles. Sharon began in pediatrics at Mount Sinai, and subsequently worked with a dietitian to develop the nutritional content of a lifestyle book. She also managed the daily operations of a home delivery food service and then worked with Dr. Howard Shapiro, counseling in his private practice, and conducting nutritional research for his best-selling diet books.
After completing her Masters of Science, Sharon became Director of Nutrition for The Tiger Schulmann's Karate (TSK) organization, a chain of 38 martial arts schools. At TSK she developed a nutritional supplement line, conducted nutrition seminars, and developed a nutrition certification program for all instructors.
In early 2004, Sharon set up her own counseling practice focusing on sports nutrition, weight loss/gain, eating disorders, and disease prevention for children, adolescents and adults. Her objective is to help her clients achieve a healthier lifestyle by creating incremental goals that are both physically and mentally challenging.
Sharon challenges herself physically, culminating in the completion of the 2003 and 2006 NYC marathon. She regularly participates in kickboxing, yoga, spinning classes and weight training. She is also certified as a kickboxing instructor.
In addition to one-on-one counseling, her business includes various consulting and lecturing at corporations. Sharon has provided nutritional analysis for restaurant menus and food products such as Feed Granola; created school breakfast and lunch menus; developed Weight Management System menus for LighterLiving.com; consulted for Head Start programs, Equinox Fitness Club and Drive 495. Her work also includes lectures at companies including Kiehls, Nike running club, and Federal Home Loan Bank of New York. Sharon has also been featured in health videos for HealthiNation. Most recently, she worked as the nutrition expert for three weight loss episodes of Queer Eye For the Straight Guy.
